VENOM PRISON Streams Pissed-Off New Single “Nemesis”

Venom Prison is back with another single “Nemesis” and, much like everything else we’ve heard from their coming record Erebos, it’s super pissed off. Venom Prison issued a statement alongside the song explaining its lyrics, which deal with abuse and the resulting trauma.

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

“This song is about the urge to hurt the person who has caused you irreparable harm and has changed your life forever. It deals with having been left to fix the damage done to you all by yourself. This specifically relates to experiencing narcissistic abuse and the trauma resulting from it.

“Narcissists tend to pick empaths as their victims because they are emotional sponges who can absorb feelings from other people easily and this makes them very attractive to narcissists as these people will fulfil all of their needs in a selfless way.

“This results in a parasitic relationship. With ‘Nemesis’ we wanted to capture the emotions of aggression, determination and pain in a more traditional Venom Prison manner. Bringing you brutal moments, energetic pace and the head banging assault of heavy metal.”

Venom Prison will release Erebos on February 4. Pre-orders are available here.

ONCE HUMAN Explores The Dark World Of Blood Diamonds In New Song “Erasure”

Once Human is now streaming the fourth single off their coming record Scar Weaver in the form of “Erasure.” Vocalist Lauren Hart said the song is about the dark world of the blood diamond industry, and how despite regulations the practice is still happening in parts of the world.

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

“‘Erasure’ is a song about blood diamonds. It’s about the clear-cut, horrific message that a rock is worth more than a life to their producers. Although today there are human rights laws and regulations that have eased the violent unearthing of these stones, it is still happening in certain parts of the world. My heart broke as I dove into the meaning of why it’s called a ‘blood diamond,’ and I felt compelled to tell its story.”

Scar Weaver is out on February 11. Pre-orders are available here.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series detailed in comprehensive leak

We still don’t know whether Samsung wants to announce the Galaxy Tab S8 slates at the upcoming MWC or alongside the S22 series. But preparations for the launch have been going for so long that all the salient details have leaked out at this point, here they are as summarized by WinFuture.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will be larger than most tablets with a huge 14.6” Super AMOLED display. It will have a notch to house the dual 12 MP cameras (wide and ultra wide), while keeping the bezels around the display quite thin. Anyway, the display will have 2,960 x 1,848 px resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and maximum brightness of 420 nits.

The Galaxy Tab S8+ will be merely large, not huge, with a 12.7” display. No notch here. The Super AMOLED panel will also run at 120 Hz and will have a resolution of 2,800 x 1,752 px. The displays on all three models will support S Pen input and will enjoy the protection of Gorilla Glass 5.

The smallest of the three, the Galaxy Tab S8, will still be fairly big with an 11” display – an LTPS LCD this time around. Like its siblings (and like the Tab S7 before it), it too will offer 120 Hz refresh rate. The LCD panel will even be a bit brighter at 500 nits.

All three Tab S8 models will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset running Android 12 with Samsung UI 4.1 on top. The standard configuration will have 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, with the S8 and S8+ getting a 256 GB storage option while the top configuration for the Ultra will be 16/512 GB. All three will have a microSD slot.

The USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port on the tablets will support DeX, Wireless DeX will be available as well. Other connectivity features include optional 5G, Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Bluetooth 5.2, ANT+ and positioning systems (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Beidou).

The USB-C port will be used for charging as well. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will have the biggest battery and be the heaviest too at 11,200 mAh and 728g. The S8+ will have a 10,090 mAh battery and will weigh 567g, while the S8 will get an 8,000 mAh battery and will tip the scales at 507g.

All three tablets will have quad speakers (with Dolby Atmos), under display fingerprint readers and dual cameras on the rear (13 MP main and 6 MP ultra wide). There will be a couple of magnetic attachment points for the S Pen stylus.

You can check out detailed pricing info that leaked a couple of days ago. In short, the Galaxy Tab S8 will start at €680-700, the S8+ will be €880-900 and the Tab S8 Ultra will sell for €1,040-1,060 at least. This is for the Wi-Fi only tablets with the base storage. Getting 5G will cost €150-160 on top of that.

The picture is further enhanced with features such as Perfect Black and Game Optimizer for an immersive gaming experience.

There are plenty of deals floating around for less than $2,000 from both LG and Sony, and you really can’t go wrong. One thing you may want to consider is the base of each TV — some rely on a single base while others use four legs. Check out these top 55-inch OLED TV deals:

Subtronics Unleashes Massive Debut Album ‘FRACTALS’

After over one year of production, the biggest Subtronics project to date has finally arrived on his own Cyclops Recordings: the debut full-length Subtronics album FRACTALS spans 16 one-of-a-kind tracks ranging from face-melting bass anthems to electro pop-adjacent cuts to leftfield experiments in sound.

“I’ve wanted to talk about this album for so long,” Subtronics said. “I’m overly transparent about my creative process, so not being able to share it with everyone has been an adjustment. I will say, I have poured so much emotional, mental, and sentimental weight into it. Putting such a huge project out there, something that I’ve been working on for well over a year, is kind of terrifying. I’ve reworked every detail of every track, made improvements, and built a universe around all of it. I have definitely evolved and grown with my sound design and I am beyond excited to share FRACTALS with everyone.”

FRACTALS opens with the epic “O.P.U.S.” to set the stage, a track that Subtronics said quite literally exploded out of him while he made it in one sitting. “I have no idea what happened,” he said. “I was at my desk, hitting keys aimlessly, while exploring Kontakt libraries and it brought me so much joy. Very meditative. I hope it feels as powerful emotionally for everyone else as it does for me when I hear it. Closing my eyes and turning the intro up full volume always teleports me back to where I was when I started to aimlessly play with chords during the lockdown in 2020.”

The album brings back singles “Spacetime” with NEVVE, “Gassed Up” with Zeds Dead and Flowdan, as well as fan-favorite “Griztronics II” with Griz. Other standouts on the album include “Take Flight VIP” with Sullivan King and “Into Pieces” with Grabbitz, whose vocals and contributions never seem to miss the mark. There’s also “FUNcKED” which lets Subtronics explore a bouncier side of bass music.

Check out the full album below. In addition to the release of FRACTALS, Subtronics embarks on his massive 53-date tour across North America beginning January 14 in Seattle — full dates and tickets here.

MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN Updates TOOL’s “Hooker With A Penis” Lyrics Live

Tool kicked off their 2022 touring schedule on January 10. The band broke out a handful of classics and rarities including “Right In Two” for the first time since 2011, as well as “Hooker With A Penis” and “Pushit” (the actual album version) for the first time since 2014. According to those in attendance, it seems like vocalist Maynard James Keenan updated the lyrics to “Hooker With A Penis” to be a little more relevant.

Report: Android updates make users happier than iOS

Sony Xperia system update complete on display

Robert Triggs / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • A survey of 1,000 people gives us an idea of habits and opinions users have on iOS and Android updates.
  • Evidence suggests Android users are more likely to be happy about updating than iOS users.
  • iOS users are also slightly less likely to update as soon as they get a notification for it.

However, how do users actually feel about all that? Additionally, what are the habits of users when it comes to iOS and Android software? That’s what Router Network set out to discover in a recent survey it conducted of around 1,000 smartphone users.

Overall, the company discovered surveyed Android users are pretty passionate about software upkeep. Meanwhile, iOS users are generally less passionate about them. In fact, a larger percentage of iOS users avoid updating their devices quickly when compared to Android users.

Check out an example of some of the data below.

iOS and Android updates

Router Network Android Updates Data

The chart above shows that Android users were much more likely to be running the most recent software on their phones. Router Network also found that recent Android updates were a positive experience in more cases than for iOS users.

Interestingly, everyone in this study was either using an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy S device. The surveyed users were all in the United States, so this makes a lot of sense for our country’s smartphone buyers.

Router Networks paper includes a lot more interesting little factoids. Astonishingly, a higher percentage of Android users were on the latest software version when compared to iPhone users. A whopping 98% of responders using a Galaxy S21 were on the latest Android update, while only 91% of iPhone 13 users could say the same.

Of course, there were also some unsurprising results. The Baby Boomer generation, for example, was the least likely to have the latest software updates. Gen Z users were the most likely to have them. Also, people with newer devices were much more likely to have the latest iOS and Android updates.

Check out all the results for yourself here!

MESHUGGAH Announces New Album Immutable

After a mysterious tease about new Meshuggah music coming soon, we’ve finally got confirmation – Meshuggah will release their new album Immutable on April 1. The album was mixed by Rickard Bengtsson and Staffan Karlsson, mastered Vlado Meller (Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, System Of A Down), and given fairly creepy artwork by artist Luminokaya.

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

Guitarist Mårten Hagström said the record is a great snapshot of where Meshuggah is at these days.

“The title fits perfectly for where we are as a band,” Mårten concludes. “We’re older now. Most of us are in our fifties now, and we’ve settled into who we are. Even though we’ve been experimenting all along, I also think we’ve been the same since day one. The way we approach things and why we still make new albums, and why we still sound the way we do, it’s immutable. Humanity is immutable, too. We commit the same mistakes over and over. And we are immutable. We do what we do, and we don’t change.”

Pre-orders will begin on January 28.
