BADVOID Drops Booming Single, “Poison”, Signed To KAYZO’s Welcome Records

BADVOID’s talent is remarkable. His sounds are always fascinating and his ear for utilizing specific sounds to bring out certain emotions is impeccable. He’s constantly pushing his sound, keeping us on our toes, excited to hear what’s next.

He’s back with a booming single titled “Poison“, featuring vocalist OLSO, signed to none other than KAYZO’s Welcome Records. It’s a big signing and rightfully deserved. The track packs a lot of punch with thundering bass wubs and a tight beat. He pairs this perfectly with OLSO’s enticing vocal along with a distorted guitar that really drives each verse and buildup. Whether you’re on drop 1 or 2, it’s impossible not to feel energy coursing through your veins as BADVOID delivers electrifying arrangements on both.

Listen to “Poison” below!

Samsung Galaxy A42 is the latest to receive the Android 12 update with One UI 4

Today Samsung has released the update to Android 12 with One UI 4 on top for yet another of mid-range phone in its incredibly varied roster. We’re talking about the Galaxy A42, which is starting to receive the new software in Europe.

The rollout seems to have begun in Poland, but it should undoubtedly expand quickly to other European countries before going global. The new firmware build version is labeled A426BXXU3CUL9, and the update contains the December 2021 security patches, which is a shame because we’re already in January 2022. However, we can’t be too harsh about this since a lot of Samsung’s competitors don’t even keep their flagships always on the current security patch level, nevermind random mid-rangers.

Samsung Galaxy A42 is the latest to receive the Android 12 update with One UI 4

If you own a Galaxy A42 from Poland, or elsewhere in Europe and want to check if you might get lucky, go to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install. See what happens. That said, like all releases, this too is likely to be staged, so it might take a few days or weeks for it to reach even all the units in Poland. Hopefully it will spread wide sooner rather than later.

4 best library apps for Android to read for free

Libby best library apps for Android

Libraries seem old school at first glance. However, many libraries update their stuff all the time and you can get some fairly modern entertainment there. Some libraries have movies, others have audiobooks, and they all have regular books, obviously. In some cases, you can even rent e-books for free with a library card. It’s an excellent way to find stuff to do on a budget. The only problem is that there are only a handful of apps capable of helping with this. Here are the best library apps for Android.

Google Maps screenshot 2021

Google Maps is a bit of a lame pick for library apps, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t good. Google Maps is the fastest, easiest way to find your local library. It’s even more useful in larger cities, where there may be multiple libraries in a relatively short distance. Additionally, Google Maps shows things like opening and closing times, directions, and even reviews.

It’s helpful in other ways. Other users may have posted photos of the library and you can usually find the library’s official website link there as well. Again, it’s a lame pick, but it’s still a good one.

Hoopla Digital

Price: Free

Hoopla - best movie apps for android

Hoopla Digital is one of the most powerful library apps on Android. It boasts a library of over one million titles ranging from movies to books. The app lets you access all of it for free and without advertising. The only thing you need is an actual, physical library card in order to register. Some other features include offline support, 24/7 access, and it’ll sync your progress if you need to switch devices.

This is the kind of stuff we like to see. It’s basically a giant library that anyone with library access can use without much difficulty. We especially like the wide range of content available in a variety of mediums. This is one of the apps we’d recommend first.

Libby, by Overdrive

Price: Free

Libby, an app by OverDrive, is very similar to Hoopla Digital but seems to focus primarily on books. It has millions of regular e-books as well as audiobooks. You simply “borrow” them with your library card and you have full access. Some of the app’s other features include the ability to send books to your Kindle (in the US only) and Android Auto support — and the app will sync your progress when you switch devices.

Like Hoopla, Libby is entirely free to use with no ads or in-app purchases. It’s basically like an e-book library except you get access like you would a normal library. This is an excellent app for readers.

Your local library app

Price: Free

Los Angeles Public Library screenshot 2022

Many libraries have their own apps now, and they’re a good choice if you intend on frequenting your local library consistently. The apps range in terms of features based on the services each library provides. However, most of the ones we looked at let you do things like search the library’s inventory, reserve books, and view upcoming events.

A few features intersect with Google Maps, like hours of operation, but they’re generally useful and always free. People who frequent their local library should ensure they download the official app, if their library has one.

ABHORIA, BORIS Among Gimme Metal’s Top Tracks of the Week

Gimme Metal Program Director Brian Turner delivers the week’s top 5 office buzz-worthy tracks.

ABHORIA – False Idols

Comprised of ex-members of Ashen Horde, Catheter and Vimana, Abhoria’s crisp take on classic black metal (particularly Immortal) retains a faithfulness with a modernity that is well played. The latest and self titled release is coming our way on Prosthetic soon, and be sure to mark your calendars as the band takes over Gimme on February 1st!

BORIS – Drowning By Numbers

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

Enduring and never running in place, Japan’s Boris have landed on Sacred Bones with their new ‘W’ LP out January 21st, and it sounds glorious. Howling wind guitars, backwards water flow, crackling electronics and Wata’s sublime whispers swirl in the mix far from the Melvins’ towering-amp vibes from Boris’ days of yore. Noise Age? A true leap into new terrain and always interesting to hear what their next door that opens leads to.

AEVITERNE – The Ailing Facade

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

Like fellow New Yawkers Imperial Triumphant, Aeviterne know how to whip up the No Wave-soaked atmosphere and alleyways, a crushing death metal variant at hand here blasting any textures and structures into pieces while still threading the needle. Imagine Gorguts with the hovering buzz of “Death Valley 69” looming overhead with a total furnace of unplaceable instrumentation wallowing around trying to escape a tarpit. The band features Garett Bussanick and Eric Rizk formerly of Flourishing, and as a consolidated unit they create a real cacophony of total destruction and disorientation.

MYRDØD – Orb Weaver

Recent discovery to our ears from Anthony Bartkewicz’s Grave Convulsions weekly blast, this bizarre outfit released three LPs and 4 EPs in 2021! The duo of vocalist Fractal Creature and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Søppelskaler summon forth a gaseous heap of billowing warped atmosphere, ungodly distant cries and a unlikely wedding of dungeon synth and ferocious black metal undercurrents. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever heard and still, really, are unable to fully pin it down, so just lay back and soak in the cosmic claustrophobia here.

PANTHEIST – Wilderness

Epic, surrealist doom emanating from Greek artist Kostant Pangiotou who’s been at it for the best part of the last two decades. Almost spaghetti-western vibes swirl around thick billowing clouds of amplified guitar, restrained croaks from the back corner of the mix swirl the gothic and grandiose.

Gimme Metal is the premier online radio station for metal fans around the world. Album Review: ENTERPRISE EARTH The Chosen

Enterprise Earth, which I learned a long time ago has nothing to do with Star Trek, seems to have gone through more lineup changes than the number of red shirts killed in all three seasons of the original Star Trek television series. Captained by lead vocalist, Dan Watson, Enterprise Earth has had a bit of a bumpy ride over the years, but certainly makes a strong statement with their newest record, The Chosen.

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

“Reanimate-Disintegrate” immediately strikes me as a standout. This banger shows the band firing on all cylinders and using their musicianship to the best of their abilities. The chord progressions, the bass and the vocals are so cohesive, and that’s what’s needed in a 6+ minute deathcore song. Note also how the breakdown is not what listeners might be accustomed to – it’s a bit of a surprise in terms of how they carefully weave it in.

Admittedly, I like this second track more than the first single, “Where Dreams Are Broken.” Not that it doesn’t grab you, because it does, but it doesn’t have quite as much depth and originality as “Reanimate-Disintegrate.” Personally, my dreams were broken a long time ago, so maybe it’s just me.

The title track, unleashes some absolutely beautiful soloing and breathtaking vocal harmonies. That sounds weird for this genre, especially for those of us over 40. But Enterprise Earth makes it work. The lovely outro that gives more low end than Snoop Dogg rollin’ in his ’64 further cements my adoration for this song. Some of the tracks following, however, are a bit more generic. It’s good to be familiar, but there also needs to be more nuance and texture to keep this band moving forward. “I Have to Escape,” for example, is a song we’ve really heard before. Not bad, but little in terms of surprise. Add this to the fact that there are a whopping 14 tracks on the record and one has to wonder if a slightly shorter, punchy record might have been a better strategy. Sometimes this record feels like sitting through Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. It’s a bit too much.

Now, there still are some surprises on the record, I do love the clean vocals and melancholy intro of “Overpass,” which then takes us into a slightly restrained breakdown. Four minutes in are some lush guitar solos. It all works musically and emotionally. This type of song is where Enterprise Earth shines, where the listener is given something surprising… something novel. I want to hear more of this.

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

Those fantastic solos abound in other tracks as well, such as “You Couldn’t Save Me.” You might say it saves an otherwise lackluster song. My advice to Enterprise Earth is to take a page out of the K.K. Downing playbook and fervently embrace one of the things you do best – guitar solos!

Fans are going to love the signature heartfelt, emotive lyrics and the fact that there is some diversity on this record. Note that all three singles released so far definitely are unique and embrace a slightly different auricular composition. The latest single, “Legends Never Die,” exemplifies this.

Enterprise Earth fans are going to really enjoy this album and Dan Watson continues to grow as a vocalist in terms of both his delivery and range. This winter’s upcoming tour, where they’re featured with Fit for an Autopsy, is going to find many new fans beaming on board.

AUTHOR & PUNISHER’s New Song “Maiden Star” Is Massively Sludgy

Author & Punisher is here to take you away to a far-off desert world with its new single “Maiden Star.” Or at least that’s what the song sounds like. With massive industrial percussion, floating synths, and dreamy guitars, Author & Punisher’s upcoming record Krüller is sounding pretty damn good so far.

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

“‘Maiden Star’ continues the trudge of escape and survival from ‘Drone Carrying Dread,’ but with a focus on the vital interpersonal conflicts and triumphs that exist in times of war and peace,” said Author & Punisher mastermind Tristan Shone. “This track, my personal favorite from the balance of the heavy and the melodic, is deeply personal and painful at the same time. The first note both lifts me up and beats the shit out of me.”

Pre-orders for Krüller are available here.

SUNN O))) Is Kicking Around New Riffs At Home

Sunn O))) guitarist Greg Anderson recently sat down with Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop for an extensive interview that covered everything from their collaboration with Scott Walker in 2014 to the philosophy behind the band’s music. During the interview, Anderson mentioned that he’s been writing and recording new riffs at home during the pandemic and sending them off to fellow Sunn O))) guitarist Stephen O’Malley. Anderson pointed out that they’re just starting to try and figure out the direction of the new record, and who (if anyone else) will be involved.

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

“As far as Sunn O))) goes, I don’t know. We’re kind of in a position right now where we’re like, starting to discuss what we’re gonna do next and we’re really in the early stages of ideas. Actually, I’ve done a lot of – you know, since COVID or whatever – have done a lot of home recording. Which is something honestly that I’d really never did in the past. It was always to me, my musical output and what I did musically was in a room with people, and I never really did a lot of practicing or you know, home recording or 4-track recording or any of that stuff at all, ever.

“But I got a digital 8-track recorder for Christmas in 2019, and I was like ‘you know what? I’m gonna finally teach myself how to use a recording device and record some of my ideas,’ you know? And I started doing that and I really enjoyed it. Now I’m totally into it, making noise and sounds and recording them and demos, basically. So I just started doing that, coming up with ideas for Sunn O))).”

Sunn O))) released their live album Metta, Benevolence BBC 6Music : Live on the invitation of Mary Anne Hobbs in November 2021. Check that out here, and check out the full interview below. It’s really interesting!

DxOMark: vivo X70 Pro’s camera beats the iPhone 13

DxOMark just published its full camera review of last year’s vivo X70 Pro, which we found to be among the best cameras in the market. DxOMark’s rating aligns with this az the handset got an overall score of 131 points sharing its 12th place with the Oppo Find X3 Pro and the vivo X50 Pro+. Interestingly enough, that puts it one place above the iPhone 13, 13 mini and 12 Pro Max.

DxOMark: vivo X70 Pro is a better photographer than the iPhone 13

The reviewers liked the accurate exposure, vibrant colors, excellent detail in low-light scenarios, the proper white balance on the ultrawide camera and the effective video stabilization. On the other hand, the review findings suggest that there’s noticeable clipping of fine detail in some scenarios, a little bit of noise in both day and night, color fringing on the ultrawide camera (this is a common issue, by the way) and the loss of focus and detail in low-light video scenes.

If you want to read in detail as well as compare the handset to other phones, check out the full review at the source link down below.

Netflix prices just went up for the US and Canada

honor 30 pro plus review petal search netflix

TL;DR

  • Netflix prices for United States and Canada customers just went up.
  • The new pricing starts immediately and raises prices by $1 to $2.
  • Netflix says the hike will allow it to “continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options.”

In the United States and Canada, Netflix hasn’t increased its pricing since October 2020. Now, according to Netflix’s pricing page, it appears the company is ready to end its streak.

Starting today, Netflix prices in the US and Canada are going up by $1 to $2, depending on the plan. These increases affect both new and current subscribers.

Speaking with Reuters, Netflix said the increase in pricing will allow it to “continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options.”

New US Netflix prices for 2022

  • Premium: $19.99 each month ($2 increase)
  • Standard: $15.49 each month ($1.50 increase)
  • Basic: $9.99 each month ($1 increase)

Meanwhile, in Canada, the Premium plan is now $20.99 ($2 increase) and the Standard plan is $16.49 ($1.50 increase). The Canadian Basic plan was unchanged at $9.99.

It’s no secret that Netflix is facing more competition than ever in the streaming space. Between the overwhelming (and somewhat surprising) successes of Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus, Netflix has been having a tough time gaining new subscribers. The easiest solution to that problem is to increase Netflix pricing across the board for a quick injection of cash.

Generally, Netflix doesn’t drop pricing after increasing it. So these prices will likely be permanent.

Netflix has 74 million subscribers in the United States and Canada as of September 2021. The two areas combined make for the company’s largest region.

Ubbi Dubbi 2022 Drops Full Lineup + Exclusive Camping Stage Hosted By Gravitas Recordings

Festival season is right around the corner (finally!) and today Disco Donnie Presents announced the full lineup for Ubbi Dubbi 2022 along with some exciting new additions that is sure to have attendees buzzing with excitement.

Ubbi Dubbi was the first festival back in 2021. Through a lot of hard work and innovation (like being the first to source COVID-sniffing dogs at a large-scale event) from DDP, their partners, and local healthcare officials, Ubbi Dubbi was a beaming success. This year, Ubbi Dubbi is returning to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas on April 23 & 24 for their biggest year yet.

Ubbi Dubbi Experience Tyler Church 46

The lineup is already stacked, featuring the some of the biggest artists around like Alison Wonderland, Tiësto, Excision, Regard, and Diplo, who will be performing a special sunset set. Joining them now are tech house titans Dom Dolla and John Summit, along with bass music powerhouse, PEEKABOO.

This year, DDP is aiming to highlight some of the best up and coming artists at their festivals through collaborations with independent record labels and the launch of their very own talent search program, Disco Spotlight.

Cue Ubbi Dubbi’s exclusive Camping Area Stage, hosted by Gravitas Recordings. As Disco Donnie put it, “the Gravitas Stage was initially on our 2020 lineup, but we unfortunately had to cancel the event. I’ve been really excited about this stage concept and couldn’t wait to bring it back for this year!”

The Gravitas Stage will be making its Ubbi Dubbi debut, featuring what is sure to be an electrifying pre-party hosted by Blunts & Blondes. A few standout up and coming acts also featured on this stage are Black Carl!, who creates some of the most forward thinking bass music around, and Megan Hamilton, whose music blends hip-hop influences with gritty funk and house elements.

Along with the Gravitas Stage, Ubbi Dubbi will offer its first ever glamping option, sure to have even the boujeest festival-goers considering camping. It includes luxury bathrooms, complimentary daily continental breakfast, a free massage, and plenty more.
